Creators and stars of Running Point have opened up about the show’s second season, with Mindy Kaling joking about feeling left out of the cast dynamic.

Ike Barinholtz also reflected on his on-screen role and experience working on the series.

Speaking during a panel at Deadline Contenders TV, Kaling admitted she felt “jealous” of the actors’ off-screen camaraderie, particularly a private group chat among the cast. Barinholtz echoed the sentiment, noting that as a writer-producer, there is often a desire to be more involved in the on-screen experience.

Barinholtz ultimately appeared in season two as Cousin Benny, a comedic character he described as one of the most enjoyable roles of his career. The actor revealed that while he initially imagined a more prominent or romantic storyline, Kaling instead cast him in a deliberately absurd role, which resonated well with audiences.

The discussion also highlighted the performance of Kate Hudson, whom Kaling credited as a central factor in the show’s success. She praised Hudson’s ability to balance emotional depth with physical comedy, describing her as key to the series’ appeal.

According to co-creator David Stassen, the second season quickly reached the number one spot on Netflix, signalling strong audience engagement. While the platform has not officially confirmed a third season, the creative team stated they are optimistic and already developing future story ideas.

All episodes of Running Point season two are currently available to stream, with fans awaiting updates on a potential renewal.
