Subnautica 2 Steam update removes Krafton as publisher ahead of early access release
Subnautica 2 Steam listing now names Unknown Worlds as publisher amid ongoing dispute with Krafton

Subnautica 2 is scheduled to launch in Early Access on Steam in May, but developments surrounding its publishing arrangements continue to evolve. The game’s Steam page now lists Unknown Worlds Entertainment as the sole publisher, with Krafton no longer named in that role.
The update to the listing was implemented on April 7, though it gained wider attention only after being shared on platforms including Bluesky and Reddit.
When approached for comment, Krafton stated, "Krafton is currently focused on successfully supporting the Early Access launch of Subnautica 2. We have nothing further to share at this time."
The change marks the latest stage in a dispute between the developer and publisher that began last year. Krafton had delayed the Early Access release of Subnautica 2, which led to legal proceedings tied to a potential $250 million payout to Unknown Worlds. During that period, Krafton also removed the studio’s chief executive and other leadership figures.
A court ruling last month ordered the reinstatement of Ted Gill as CEO of Unknown Worlds and instructed Krafton not to interfere with his authority over the Early Access launch. However, shortly after the ruling, Krafton announced a May release window for the game.
Gill subsequently informed the court that "Krafton self-servingly announced the launch without any regard to its impact on the game, the team, or the community — let alone this Court’s Opinion." At the time, he had only recently returned to his role and had not yet reviewed the project’s progress.
According to legal filings, Gill must now manage publishing arrangements and launch planning under the pressure of potential community response if the release timing changes.
Subnautica 2 remains scheduled for a May Early Access launch on Windows PC and Xbox Series X.
