'The Boys' season 5 episode 3 recap: Is Soldier Boy immortal? Homelander’s prophecy, brutal deaths, and the return of V1
Homelander's god complex grows, Ryan turns deadly, and two brutal deaths rock episode 3 of 'The Boys'

The Boys season 5 takes a darker turn in episode 3, “Every One of You Sons of Bitches,” pushing several major storylines forward while setting up what could be the final war between Homelander, Butcher, and everyone caught in between.
The episode begins with chaos in Russia, where a Special Forces squad investigates a hidden CIA site. Before they can learn anything useful, Ryan appears and wipes them out with terrifying ease. His violent opening scene makes it clear that whatever innocence he once had is slipping away fast.
Back in America, Vought stages another media spectacle by officially introducing Soldier Boy as a member of The Seven. Homelander then stuns the public by revealing that Soldier Boy is actually his father, turning their already volatile relationship into a national talking point.
Meanwhile, The Boys uncover one of the biggest revelations of the season so far. Soldier Boy survived the anti-Supe virus because his body contains V1, an early version of Compound V that is far stronger than the modern formula. Dr. Shah explains that V1 is significantly more powerful, and rumors of a remaining sample instantly make it the most valuable substance in the world, especially to Homelander, who now sees it as the path to eternal life.
Trying to gain an advantage, Annie convinces the group to seek out Stan Edgar. The former Vought boss agrees to meet them and brings them to a hidden bunker. There, they encounter Maverick, the invisible son of Translucent. Stan also makes sure Maverick knows Homelander played the real role in his father’s death, planting even more distrust.
Homelander spends much of the episode descending deeper into delusion. He sees visions of Madelyn Stillwell, who appears almost like a divine messenger. In his mind, she tells him he is destined to become immortal, adored by the masses, and elevated above all others. The only obstacle, she says, is the wicked people who must be removed first.
That warped sense of destiny drives Homelander into a confrontation with Soldier Boy, whom he accuses of wasting his gifts through alcoholism and self-destruction. The resentment between them keeps growing, and it feels inevitable that father and son will eventually collide.
Elsewhere, Ryan crosses paths with Zoe, Victoria Neumann’s daughter. She wants Butcher dead, but Ryan hesitates, showing that he is still torn between the influences around him. Later, Ryan secretly speaks with Butcher about the possibility of killing Homelander with the virus.
Mother’s Milk investigates an abandoned military hospital once linked to Frederick Vought, revealing it was used for V1 experimentation. That discovery connects the company’s earliest horrors directly to the present conflict.
Things become even messier when Zoe reunites with Dr. Shah. After learning the truth about Victoria, Shah breaks emotionally and destroys the remaining anti-Supe virus. Frenchie nearly kills him in response, but Kimiko steps in before it goes too far.
In one of the episode’s more bizarre moments, Soldier Boy and Firecracker’s mutual chaos turns into attraction, and the two end up sleeping together.
The bunker storyline then erupts into betrayal. The Boys attempt to trap Black Noir, but Dogknott ruins the plan. Stan Edgar then turns on them by locking them inside. Black Noir captures Edgar soon after, only for The Deep to unexpectedly intervene, knocking both men out with gas released from his Tesla.
A full fight breaks out as Maverick attacks Hughie and Dogknott targets Mother’s Milk and Starlight. Then Cindy suddenly appears and kills Maverick in explosive fashion. Moments later, Starlight retaliates by snapping Cindy’s neck.
The episode closes with one of the season’s most intense scenes. Ryan confronts Homelander and demands the truth about what happened to his mother. When Ryan attacks him, Homelander effortlessly overpowers his son and brutally beats him down. He stops before delivering the final blow, but the damage may already be done.
At the same time, Stan Edgar is delivered directly to Homelander, suggesting the Supe tyrant now wants answers about V1, and may do anything to get them.
Episode 3 also packs in several callbacks and references, including the return of V1 from Gen V, more Vought propaganda surrounding the attack on Vought Tower, Zoe’s reappearance, mention of Marie Moreau helping Annie, Madelyn Stillwell’s return through hallucinations, and Maverick finally stepping into the spotlight.
The confirmed deaths this week are Maverick and Cindy, both taken out during the bunker battle.
With Homelander embracing a god complex, Ryan becoming more unstable, and V1 suddenly the most dangerous asset alive, The Boys season 5 has fully entered endgame territory.
