The third season of Euphoria will no longer feature music by singer-producer Labrinth, with HBO confirming his departure ahead of the show’s return.

Labrinth was responsible for shaping much of the emotional soundscape of the series, composing the score and several standout tracks across the first two seasons, including Formula, Still Don’t Know My Name, and the Grammy-nominated Never Felt So Alone featuring Billie Eilish.

HBO had previously announced that he would return for the new season alongside composer Hans Zimmer, but the collaboration has now been dropped.

In March, Labrinth publicly distanced himself from the show in a strongly worded Instagram post criticizing both HBO and Columbia Records. He ended the post with the message: “I’m out. Thank you and good night.”

The decision follows reporting that the musician would no longer be involved in the upcoming season, which is expected to premiere this weekend. HBO has since confirmed his exit but did not provide further details on the reasons behind the split.

Series creator Sam Levinson acknowledged uncertainty around the situation when asked about the departure, saying: “I don’t know.” He added that Labrinth “is an incredible collaborator and someone who really built the foundation of the sound of Euphoria.”

Levinson also discussed the shift in musical direction for the new season, noting the introduction of Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer and a move toward a more cinematic score. “Each character’s storyline is like its own film in a way,” he said, adding that he wanted to “lean into an old-fashioned Hollywood Western score.”

The upcoming season of Euphoria arrives four years after the previous installment and sees its central cast, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi, return as their characters navigate adulthood.

While anticipation remains high, early critical reactions have been mixed, with some reviewers questioning whether the series has retained its cultural impact. Others, however, have praised its visual ambition and continued performances from its lead cast.

Despite the changes behind the scenes, Euphoria continues to be one of HBO’s most talked-about dramas as it enters its new chapter without one of its most defining musical voices.
