'Early treatment can cut cancer deaths'
Oncologist Dr Sana Zeeshan urges women to prioritise regular check-ups

An oncologist has stressed that early detection and timely treatment can reduce breast cancer mortality by up to 40 per cent, urging greater awareness and regular screening as the disease affects around 90,000 women annually in Pakistan.
Speaking to a local news channel as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, leading surgeon and oncologist Dr Sana Zeeshan emphasised that identifying breast cancer in its early stages not only improves survival rates but also reduces the physical, emotional, and financial burden on patients.
"Early diagnosis allows women to seek timely medical care, significantly increasing their chances of recovery and maintaining a better quality of life," she said.
Dr Zeeshan added that early-stage treatment is considerably less expensive compared to advanced cancer therapies, which often involve prolonged and complex procedures. She urged women to perform regular self-examinations and attend routine medical check-ups, while calling on healthcare authorities to expand public awareness campaigns and improve access to screening facilities.
"Early detection can save lives and protect families from financial hardship," she stressed, underscoring the need for continued education and vigilance to combat the disease.
