LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to ensure foolproof security arrangements during Chand Raat and Eidul Azha across the province, with strict implementation of security SOPs.

Chairing a meeting, she ordered installation of metal detectors and walk-through gates at Eid congregation venues and directed assistant commissioners to meet religious scholars and brief them on the government's security and cleanliness measures. She ordered extra security arrangements at sensitive places and directed authorities to ensure patrolling in markets on Chand Raat along with deployment of women police personnel.

The CM also directed officials to ensure real-time monitoring through the Safe City Authority system during security operations and ordered strict implementation of the ban on camps established by proscribed organisations for collecting sacrificial hides.

She directed district police officers to visit their areas to ensure enforcement of the ban and ordered authorities to prevent dissemination of hate material. The chief minister also ordered action against one-wheeling and hooliganism by motorcyclists during the holidays.

Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi said Eid prayers would be offered at 38,507 locations across the province. Section 144 has been imposed to ban roasting of siri paye at public places, while action would also be taken against those disposing of animal remains in drains and public areas.

The CM directed authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the ban on firing and display of weapons.

Meanwhile, a Punjab Police spokesperson said more than 4,000 personnel had been deployed for the security of 222 cattle markets across the province. In Lahore, more than 600 personnel are deployed for six markets.

IG Abdul Kareem said comprehensive measures should be ensured for the security of traders and buyers. No cattle market will be allowed at any place other than the points approved by the district administrations and legal action will be taken against illegal cattle markets and sale points.
