Fighting dengue: 4 more die in Punjab, K-P

Three succumb to the virus in Lahore while one more dies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

LAHORE: Four more patients who contracted dengue succumbed to the virus, Express 24/7 reported on Sunday.

Three people died in Lahore while one more died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

60-year-old Shakila Bibi and 65-year-old Ghulam Mohiyuddin died from dengue fever at Services Hospital in Lahore.

Resident of Faisal Town, 45-year-old Muhammad Rafiq died at a private hospital in Lahore after contracting dengue.

The death toll due to dengue in Punjab has now risen to 89.

Hospitals remained overcrowded with people coming in for dengue tests even on a Sunday.

The number of patients in Punjab has crossed above 8,820. Out of those, 7,900 are in Lahore alone.

The number of deaths from dengue fever in Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa has reached to six today (Sunday).

A women, suffering from dengue was admitted to Mardan Medical Complex but died eight hours after she was admitted.

The provincial health department confirmed that six people have died from the disease so far.

The total number of dengue patients in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa now stands at 193.

'Media should help eradicate dengue'

Punajb Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the media should run an all-out campaign against dengue to spread awareness about the disease.

He said this while speaking to the media in Shahdara.

Shahbaz said it is everyone's duty to make an effort to eradicate the dengue virus.

He added that the media should show responsibility in reporting dengue cases and avoid spreading any rumours regarding the disease.

He also said that 500,000 anti-dengue kits are being prepared to be distributed among the people free of charge.

He said the kit would contain anti-mosquito coils, sprays and mosquito repellent ointments.

Walk to fight dengue

Athletes in Faisalabad have arranged a walk to spread awareness about dengue fever.

The walk began from the circuit house and athletes from the entire district participated.

Participants said people should not go to parks in the evening and early morning hours.

The district sports officials said the special campaign for awareness of dengue will continue till the month of November.
