A reboot of 13 Going on 30 is officially in development at Netflix, with Emily Bader and Logan Lerman set to lead the cast.

Jennifer Garner, who starred in the original film, is attached as an executive producer.

The project will be directed by Brett Haley, reuniting him with Bader following their successful collaboration on People We Meet on Vacation. The screenplay is written by Hannah Marks, with revisions by Flora Greeson. While plot details remain under wraps, the reboot is expected to reimagine the beloved fantasy romantic comedy for a new generation.

The original “13 Going on 30,” released in 2004 by Columbia Pictures, followed a teenage girl who magically wakes up in her 30-year-old body, navigating adulthood while rediscovering her identity. Garner starred as the adult version of Jenna Rink alongside Mark Ruffalo, and the film went on to gross nearly $100 million worldwide, later becoming a cult favorite.

According to the director, the reboot aims to preserve the emotional core and charm of the original while introducing a fresh perspective. Haley described the film as a “rare, perfect story” and emphasized the significance of Garner’s involvement in maintaining its legacy.

The casting of Bader and Lerman signals Netflix’s continued investment in romantic comedies, particularly following Bader’s recent streaming success. The film adds to a growing slate of nostalgic reboots and adaptations, capitalizing on established fan bases while appealing to new audiences.

Production timelines and release dates have yet to be announced.
