Nabbed: Attempt to smuggle 40 kg of hashish foiled

ISLAMABAD:

The city police on Saturday foiled an attempt to smuggle over 40 kilograms of hashish to different areas of Punjab and arrested the suspected smuggler near Motorway Chowk, in the outskirts of the city.

The Tarnol police said they received information from informants that a car was transporting a large quantity of hashish through the motorway.

Acting on the tip-off, the police intercepted a Suzuki Mehran (RNE 2131), coming from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and headed towards Punjab, at a specially established check point at Motorway Chowk. The police recovered the hashish concealed in the fuel tank, under the rear seat of the car.

The driver was shifted to Tarnol Police Station and the vehicle was impounded.

Tarnol Police Station House Officer Fazlur Rehman said that the suspect, who claims he is only a carrier, has not given up the names of the people spearheading the illegal trade.

However, he is still under interrogation, he said. The suspect revealed that he has been delivering a number of hashish consignments to different places in Punjab before.
