Child domestic help 'tortured' in Rawalpindi

Employer arrested after 10-year-old escapes, reports alleged abuse to police

RAWALPINDI:

A 10-year-old domestic worker was allegedly tortured by his employer in Satellite Town area of New Town police station.

According to reports, the employer beat the child with pipes after the boy wet the bed while sleeping.

According to sources, the child was kept hungry and thirsty and locked inside a room.

Whenever the boy asked to speak to his father, the accused allegedly subjected him to further abuse, slapping and punching him and scratching him with nails.

The child eventually managed to escape and reached the police station, where he sought help.

Police immediately registered a case and arrested the accused.

According to police, Mohammad Sher filed the case stating that he was working as a domestic servant for Sheikh Daim, a resident of Satellite Town, for a salary of Rs6,000.

He stated that when he accidentally wet the bed during sleep, Sheikh Daim beat him with pipes, forced him to bang his head against the wall and locked him in a room.

When he asked to speak to his father, he was again beaten with slaps and punches and scratched with nails, and kept locked in the room without food or water.

The child also alleged that he was threatened with death if he disclosed the incident to anyone.

Police registered the case on the statement of the victim and arrested the employer.

The child was medically examined and transferred to the Child Protection Bureau.

Rawal SP Saad Arshad said the accused would be challaned with strong evidence. He said employing minor children is a crime under the law, and violence or mistreatment against children is unacceptable.?
