Dengue in Lahore: Hockey, weightlifting events postponed

National Under-16 Hockey Championship and Punjab Weightlifting Championship postponed.

LAHORE: Hockey and weightlifting events scheduled to be held in Lahore were postponed due to the dengue outbreak in the provincial capital, Express 24/7 reported on Saturday.

The National Under-16 Hockey Championship, which was scheduled to begin on October 1, and the Punjab Weightlifting Championship, scheduled to start from September 28, have been postponed.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) spokesman said the government is trying its best to overcome the epidemic and that is requires support.

The revised dates for both the events will be announced later.

Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had shifted the upcoming Faysal Bank National Twenty20 tournament from dengue-hit Lahore to Karachi.

The board made the decision after directives from the President who asked the PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt to reconsider the decision of the tournament that starts from Sunday and involves 14 teams, including Afghanistan.
