Camp says she 'meant no harm' after reposting a defence of 'Scream 7' during boycott calls

Anna Camp has apologised after defending Scream 7 during ongoing boycott attempts linked to the dismissal of former franchise star Melissa Barrera.

Camp shared a social media post over the weekend promoting the latest instalment of the horror series. The repost responded to public protests surrounding Barrera’s 2023 firing after comments she made about the violence between Israel and Palestine.

The original message, published by the Scream With Ryan C. Showers podcast account and reshared by Camp, stated, “The boycott didn’t work, the critics didn’t work, the pathetic leaks didn’t work. What worked was audiences coming out and making the film a success. #Scream7.” She shared the post with Taylor Swift's song "Karma" playing in the back.

After facing fire for her actions, on Sunday, Camp issued an apology, writing, “It has come to my attention that I reposted someone else’s story that does not reflect my personal beliefs. I have since deleted the repost because I absolutely meant no harm. I’m sorry to anyone who was affected.”

Despite receiving largely negative reviews from critics, Scream 7 delivered one of the strongest box-office openings in the franchise’s history.

The film opened with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 34% and a Metacritic rating of 36. Despite that reception, the film is projected to approach or surpass $50 million in its opening weekend, potentially exceeding the $44 million debut set by Scream VI. Some estimates place the figure as high as $59 million.
