Andy Park exits Marvel after 16 years as Disney layoffs impact visual development teams across studios

Andy Park has officially left Marvel Studios after 16 years, following a wider round of layoffs at The Walt Disney Company, according to Variety.

Park, who served as director of visual development, announced his departure on social media, reflecting on his long tenure with the studio. He described his time at Marvel as the beginning of a transformative era, noting his involvement in more than 40 films and leadership on 15 major projects. His work helped define the visual identity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including early contributions to Captain America: The First Avenger and later design work on films such as Deadpool & Wolverine and The Marvels.

The departure comes as Disney continues restructuring efforts under CEO Josh D’Amaro, with approximately 1,000 roles being eliminated across multiple divisions. The layoffs are part of a broader initiative to streamline operations, including changes within Marvel Studios’ production and marketing structure.

Sources indicate that Marvel’s visual development department will be significantly reduced, shifting toward a smaller, project-based hiring model. However, key leadership remains intact, including Ryan Meinerding, who continues to oversee character design and visual development at the studio.

Despite the transition, Park expressed optimism about his future, stating that his creative journey is ongoing. His exit marks the end of a significant chapter in Marvel’s visual storytelling history, as the studio continues evolving its production approach for upcoming phases of the MCU.
