Luke Thompson is feeling a mix of nostalgia and relief as his run leading "Bridgerton" season four comes to an end, with the actor admitting that press tours have been the most challenging part of the experience.

The 37-year-old British star, who plays Benedict Bridgerton in the Netflix phenomenon, opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about the psychological demands of promoting the show while the final episodes of season four release on the streamer.

"Press tours have now become bigger and bigger things that require more and more of actors," Thompson said. "People assume that actors like attention. But personally, press is a tricky thing to square in my head. I don't particularly want to talk about myself."

Despite the challenges of publicity, Thompson described the actual production as effortless. "When you're so held by a production, and you're dealing with some of the best people in streaming and in TV, you can afford to just let yourself go to it. I loved leading it."

Thompson's season four follows Benedict's Cinderella love story with Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha. He praised his co-star effusively, calling her "gold dust" and noting her combination of sophistication and humor.

The actor also addressed the heartthrob status that comes with leading a "Bridgerton" season. "Being a heartthrob is probably 90 percent projection. I welcome it. I just understand that people want to project all sorts of things onto you."

Thompson has completed filming "Elsinore," a drama about Ian Charleson's final weeks playing Hamlet, opposite Andrew Scott. He remains open to returning to the "Bridgerton" family, likening the cast to "Hotel California" — you can check out but never leave.

"Life in amongst Bridgerton?" Thompson offered when asked about his future, signaling he's in no hurry to fully move on from the franchise that made him a household name.
