Comedian Deon Cole is facing death threats from supporters of Donald Trump and Nicki Minaj's fan base following his hosting monologue at the 2026 NAACP Image Awards, where he delivered jokes about both figures.

During the Feb. 28 ceremony celebrating Black excellence in entertainment, Cole incorporated political commentary into his set. He joked about Minaj's recent public alignment with Trump and the MAGA movement, saying during a mock prayer: "Lord, we want you to bless our sister Nicki Minaj. She's been going through a lot lately and hasn't been herself, Lord. I believe whatever's in her body is affecting her brain, Lord."

The comedian also addressed the recent BAFTAs controversy involving a Tourette's activist who shouted the N-word during a presentation, warning audience members with Tourette's to "read the room tonight."

Within hours of the broadcast, Cole began receiving threatening messages online. Sources confirm the comedian has received death threats from Trump supporters angered by political jabs, as well as from members of Minaj's fan base, known as Barbz. Some individuals allegedly made cruel references to Cole's late mother in online posts.

The NAACP Image Awards have historically provided space for social commentary and satire. However, the intensity of the response raises questions about the current climate for comedy and cultural criticism.

Criticism of comedy is expected, but death threats represent a dangerous escalation. The incident highlights growing concerns about online extremism, Stan culture and the inability of some audiences to distinguish between satire and personal attack.

Cole has not publicly commented on the threats as of publication.
