Report says FromSoftware blocked Bloodborne remake pitched to Sony by Bluepoint

A proposed Bloodborne remake was reportedly declined after FromSoftware opposed the project, according to a new report.

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier wrote in his Game On newsletter that Bluepoint Games pitched a remake of Bloodborne to parent company Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2025.

However, the project did not proceed. Schreier stated that when Bluepoint presented the idea, it was told “that the numbers made sense, but FromSoftware didn’t want it to happen.”

Bluepoint previously worked on a remake of Demon's Souls for PlayStation 5, another title originally developed by FromSoftware. The studio has also produced remakes, including Shadow of the Colossus.

Calls for a Bloodborne remake, remaster, or a PlayStation 5 update for the original PlayStation 4 game have continued for years, particularly following Bluepoint’s work on other titles. However, no new version has been announced.

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida previously described Bloodborne as “the most asked [for] thing” by PlayStation fans. Speaking to Kinda Funny Games’ Greg Miller, he shared his view on why a new version has not materialised.

“My theory is: Because I remember Miyazaki-san, he really, really loved Bloodborne, [...] I think he is interested,” Yoshida said. “But he’s so successful, and he’s so busy, he cannot do [it] himself, but he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it. That’s my theory. And the PlayStation team respects his wish. That’s my guess.”

FromSoftware is currently working on several projects, including Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 and the Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods. A film adaptation of Elden Ring with writer and director Alex Garland is also in development.

Bloodborne remains available on PS4 and playable on PS5 through backward compatibility.
