Tehsildar apologises for misconduct

ISLAMABAD:

A deputy tehsildar who allegedly stopped a citizen's car and had his guard assault him for not giving way has apologised to the complainant, following which the Islamabad High Court disposed of the case after the petition was withdrawn.

Chief Justice Sardar Sarfraz Dogar heard the petition filed by citizen Nauman Javed Abbasi. On court orders, Deputy Tehsildar Ali Javed appeared before the bench.

The petitioner informed the court that an apology had been tendered and accepted. "The matter has been resolved and I want to withdraw the petition," he stated. The court disposed of the case after the withdrawal.

In his petition, the citizen had requested the court to direct the Islamabad chief commissioner and deputy commissioner to initiate departmental disciplinary proceedings against the deputy tehsildar.

The plea stated that due to a traffic jam, the petitioner could not immediately give way, after which his vehicle was stopped. The guard allegedly slapped him and misbehaved, while the deputy tehsildar, misusing his position, threatened serious consequences.

The petitioner termed the roadside humiliation an abuse of authority and a violation of fundamental rights under Articles 4, 9, 14 and 25 of the Constitution.
