RAWALPINDI:

The engine and three empty coaches of the Green Line Express derailed and lodged in the ground near the Rawalpindi Railway Station on Tuesday, causing severe damage to the track and delaying train departure schedule.

According to railway officials, the empty train was travelling from Rawalpindi to Margalla Station in Islamabad, from where it was scheduled to depart for Karachi.

Preliminary investigations suggested that the accident may have been caused by a combination of deteriorating track conditions and high speed. After the accident, traffic on the up-line track was temporarily suspended.
