NEW YORK:

Envoys of Turkiye and Pakistan to the UN Sunday joined members of the Turkish and Pakistani communities at Masjid un Noor to commemorate the third anniversary of the devastating 6 February 2023 earthquake that hit Turkiye's south-central region.

The powerful earthquake, which struck near the country's border with Syria, claimed over 62,000 lives (53,537 in Turkiye and 8,476 in Syria) and injured more than 100,000.

The ceremony "reflected the longstanding, historic, and brotherly ties between the peoples of the two countries, underscoring the deep bonds of friendship and solidarity that define the Pakistan–Turkiye strategic partnership," a statement from the Pakistani Mission to the UN said.
