Police roll out security plan for holy month
City police have finalised an extensive security plan aimed at ensuring peace and providing a safe environment for citizens during prayers and shopping hours during the month of Ramazan. More than 26,000 officers and personnel will be deployed citywide as part of heightened security arrangements.
According to a spokesperson for the Karachi Police, special security measures have been put in place for 4,582 Taraweeh prayer locations. These include 4,007 mosques, 270 imambargahs, and 305 open-air venues, where a total of 10,133 police personnel will be stationed.
In addition, security will be deployed at 353 commercial and public locations, including 126 markets, 219 shopping centres and malls, and eight Ramazan bazaars. A total of 2,989 officers will be assigned to these areas to ensure a safe shopping environment for citizens, particularly during peak evening hours.
The security plan also includes enhanced deployment at sensitive locations, strict monitoring of entry and exit points, snap checking, increased mobile patrolling, and effective CCTV surveillance. All duty officers have been directed to remain on high alert and ensure swift response to any untoward incident.
