Universal Pictures is officially bringing back one of its most beloved franchises. The Mummy 4 is set to hit theatres on May 19, 2028, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz returning to their iconic roles as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell.

The announcement marks a major reunion for the franchise’s original stars, who last appeared together in 2001’s The Mummy Returns. While Fraser reprised his role in 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Weisz did not appear in that installment — making this the first time in more than two decades that the duo will share the screen in the series.

The new installment will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmaking team known as Radio Silence. The screenplay is written by David Coggeshall, with longtime franchise producer Sean Daniel returning alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the project is expected to revive the adventurous tone and romantic chemistry that helped turn the 1999 original into a global hit. That film, followed by The Mummy Returns, became a defining action-adventure franchise of its era.

With a prime summer release date in 2028, The Mummy 4 is shaping up to be a major theatrical event — and a nostalgic return for fans eager to see Rick and Evie back in action.
