Wake-Up Call: ‘No more dozing on the steering’

LAHORE: Motorway Police have launched a campaign to monitor slumbering drivers. “In order to cope with the increasing instances and crashes due to dozing drivers, the authorities have been directed to keep the highways well lit,” Deputy Inspector General (Motorways) Dr Muhammad Shafique said. He said that the campaign, begun this week, was likely to continue for a couple of weeks. He said patrolling officers has been directed to stop vehicles at random, in addition to using hooters and sirens at night. He said that additional officers have been appointed to brief the commuters and give them tips for a safe journey. Banners warning drivers of the hazard have been displayed at prominent places and pamphlets and leaflets are being distributed.
