QUETTA:

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has said the provincial government is actively using modern technology to protect lives and property, noting that 97 per cent of surveillance cameras in Quetta had been restored and made fully operational, leading to a 70 per cent decline in the crime rate in the provincial capital over the past two months.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Bugti described the reduction as clear evidence that the provincial government's strategy is moving in the right direction.

The chief minister observed that the provincial government is pursuing effective and coordinated measures to improve peace and security across Balochistan in a gradual but sustainable manner.

He said crimes in Quetta had declined by 70 per cent over the past two months as a result of effective government policies and the sustained efforts of law enforcement agencies, emphasising that modern technology is being utilised to safeguard citizens' lives and property.

He revealed that under the Quetta Safe City Project, 97 per cent of surveillance cameras had been restored and made fully operational, strengthening the monitoring system and playing a key role in preventing criminal activity.

He reaffirmed that a zero-tolerance policy is being implemented against terrorists and criminal elements, with indiscriminate action underway to eliminate all threats to public safety.

He praised the Balochistan Police for acting as the frontline force in the fight against terrorism and crime, fulfilling their responsibilities with professionalism, dedication, and sacrifice to protect the lives and property of the public.

Reiterating the government's commitment, Bugti assured that the provincial government will continue to provide full support to law enforcement agencies until lasting peace is established in the province.

He pledged that all available resources will be utilized to provide citizens with a secure and peaceful environment.

On Dec 31, 2025 Balochistan's top police officer noted that coordinated action by police, security forces and other law enforcement agencies helped reduce terrorist attacks during the past year as he vowed to further strengthen the force through improved planning, modern weapons and specialised training.

Addressing a news conference at the Central Police, Balochistan IG Muhammad Tahir said attacks were foiled in Gwadar, Quetta, Bagh, Jhal Magsi police station areas and Panjgur with support from other security agencies.

He stressed that the police response would be further strengthened through training, provision of weapons and other requirements.

The top police official noted that the force would enhance its operational capacity in the coming year, ensure merit-based recruitment across departments and improve mechanisms for policing.

"We have plans to develop police on modern lines," he maintained, referring to the merger of the Levies into the police to create "one well-trained and effective force".
