Rumors claiming that Will Smith’s Oscars ban has been quietly lifted, and that the actor is set to make an on-stage apology to Chris Rock, have been debunked.

Despite viral posts circulating online, there is no evidence that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has reversed the disciplinary action imposed after the infamous 2022 Oscars incident.

The speculation suggested Smith would return to the Oscars to publicly address the slap that stunned viewers worldwide when he struck comedian Chris Rock during the live broadcast. However, no official confirmation from the Academy supports this claim.

The organization has made no announcement indicating that Smith has been invited back or that his ban has been reconsidered.

Following the incident, the Academy barred Smith from attending its events, including the Oscars, for 10 years, a decision that remains in effect. While Smith has issued multiple apologies since then, including a public video expressing remorse and acknowledging the harm caused, those gestures were made independently and not in coordination with the Academy.

As of now, the viral claims appear to be fueled by speculation rather than verified reporting.

Until the Academy publicly states otherwise, Will Smith remains banned from Oscars ceremonies, and there are no plans for an on-stage apology or official reinstatement.
