ISLAMABAD:

The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Rawalpindi, has been entrusted with conducting the National Registration Examination (NRE) to ensure credibility, integrity and transparency, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.

The NRE for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) is a mandatory requirement under an act of parliament and is designed to promote transparency, standardisation and quality in medical and dental education, as well as professional practice in Pakistan.

The NRE is a two-step examination conducted at least twice a year, in line with the approved NRE standards, structure and syllabus. NUMS has been conducting the examination for the past two years and is responsible for paper setting, compilation and the declaration of final results.

According to the press release, the exam is conducted on a curriculum equivalent to the MBBS and BDS programmes in Pakistan. It said that the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has no direct role in paper development, exam conduct or result preparation for the NRE.
