Inter-city bus terminal feasibility finalised

Terminal will be integrated with metro bus and electric feeder bus services

ISLAMABAD:

Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, on Tuesday met a delegation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at CDA Headquarters to review progress on the Islamabad Inter-City Bus Terminal project.

The meeting was attended by CDA Board Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Director General Resource, and other senior officers.

During the meeting, ADB consultants briefed participants on various ongoing and proposed initiatives, including the Islamabad Inter-City Bus Terminal. They informed the meeting that the initial feasibility report for the project has been completed.

The consultants further stated that ADB is developing an optimal financial model for the project, which will be integrated with Islamabad's Metro Bus and Electric Feeder Bus services. The Inter-City Bus Terminal will also feature modern electric vehicle charging stations as part of efforts to promote sustainable transport.

The delegation also informed the meeting that ADB is providing technical assistance for the preparation of the Islamabad Transport Master Plan.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa urged ADB to extend technical support for securing carbon credits for environmentally friendly projects. He said that all available resources are being utilized to provide Islamabad's residents with efficient, modern, and eco-friendly transport facilities.

He added that the completion of the Inter-City Bus Terminal would significantly ease traffic congestion on the federal capital's highways.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment to fully leverage the technical expertise, experience, and capabilities of the Asian Development Bank in advancing Islamabad's sustainable transport infrastructure.
