Netflix teams with ‘Monte Cristo’ filmmakers on French thriller series ‘Les brumes’

Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, the filmmaking duo behind the recent success The Count of Monte Cristo, are developing a new French thriller series for Netflix, produced by Pathé.

Titled Les brumes, the six-episode suspense drama is adapted from Olivier Norek’s novel Dans les brumes de Capelans. The series is created and written by Delaporte, de La Patellière and Sylvain Caron, marking the duo’s first television project with both Pathé and Netflix.

The story centers on a string of murders linked to a killer who vanishes without a trace. The only survivor, Anna, a young woman who cannot speak, is taken to a remote Atlantic island, where she encounters Victor Coste, a police officer living in self-imposed exile.

Tasked with helping Anna communicate and identify the killer, Coste must race against time as heavy fog cuts the island off from the outside world and turns it into a dangerous trap.

Filming is set to begin on Jan. 13 in France and Ireland. The cast includes Pio Marmaï, Alice Da Luz, Bouli Lanners, Stéphane Caillard, Zineb Triki, Patrick Mille, Florence Loiret-Caille, Léonie Dahan-Lamort and Paul Beaurepaire. Delaporte and de La Patellière will direct alongside Thierry Poiraud.

The series is produced by Aude Albano for Pathé in collaboration with Fargo Films, the duo’s production banner. Les brumes reunites the filmmakers with Pathé, which previously partnered with them on The Count of Monte Cristo, one of France’s biggest box office hits of 2024, as well as the two-part The Three Musketeers films.

Delaporte and de La Patellière are also preparing their English-language feature debut, The Iron King, based on Maurice Druon’s The Accursed Kings novels.
