The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has prepared a plan to construct four new parking plazas to accommodate 5,000 vehicles.
The Ring Road project has achieved 78 per cent completion, while Murree Road is set to be expanded by 15 feet on both sides. An underpass will also be constructed on Ninth Avenue to develop a signal-free corridor between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
These details were shared by RDA Director General (DG) Kinza Murtaza during a briefing to Punjab Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin on his visit to the RDA office.
The DG informed that two of the four parking plazas would be constructed near Kachehri Chowk, while the remaining two would be built on Jinnah Road in Raja Bazaar. The projects are expected to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the city.
She added that all four parking plazas combined would have a capacity of more than 5,000 vehicles.
Later, the provincial minister visited the Banth Interchange of the Rawalpindi Ring Road project to review progress.
The RDA DG informed him that 78 per cent of the project had been completed and that it would become fully operational by the end of March 2026.
The housing minister appreciated the overall performance of the RDA and directed that projects related to urban development and public facilitation be completed within stipulated timelines.
He emphasised that the housing department was taking robust measures to promote low-cost housing schemes, improve urban infrastructure and ensure the provision of basic civic amenities.
RDA DG stated that completion of the Ring Road would improve connectivity between different parts of the city and promote economic activity in the region. She added that RDA was coordinating closely with relevant departments to ensure timely completion while strictly implementing all safety standards.
Clear instructions have been issued to ensure effective and timely completion of the project.
The meeting was attended by MPAs Raja Muhammad Hanif Advocate, Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, Chaudhry Imran Ilyas, Raja Sagheer Ahmed, Mohsin Ayub Khan and others.
