MITHI:

In Tharparkar, concerned citizens staged a protest in Mithi against the unchecked hunting of rare deer and birds, demanding immediate and strict action against hunters.

The demonstration, held at Kashmir Chowk, was led by community members including Haji Muhammad Kanmbher, Akash Hameerani, Aftab Samijo, Abbas Kalr, Rahul Dev, Mushtaq Qasmani, and Ejaz Jan Bajir among others.

Protesters alleged that despite an official ban, wildlife officials have failed to curb hunting across Tharparkar, including Nagarparkar and adjoining areas.

They accused authorities of turning a blind eye to the killing of endangered species, with influential hunters often escaping accountability as their names are reportedly removed from FIRs.

Speakers highlighted the plight of the Chinkara deer, a rare species native to Tharparkar, which they said is being openly targeted by hunters. "Despite repeated protests, no legal action is taken. Wildlife officers appear powerless before influential individuals," the demonstrators lamented.

The citizens demanded that the government and wildlife department take decisive measures to protect Thar's endangered deer and bird populations, warning that continued negligence could lead to irreversible loss of biodiversity in the region.
