Govt to monitor wheat procurement
Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister for Price Control Salma Butt said on Sunday that the Wheat Policy 2026 has been prepared for the convenience of farmers.
Under this policy, the private sector will purchase wheat from the farmers and the government will monitor the process completely.
The price has been fixed at Rs3,500 per maund of wheat.
Farmers will be paid on time through private sector procurement, the special assistant said.
A mapping system has also been implemented for monitoring wheat movement.
A wheat mapping system is a technological framework, typically using remote sensing (satellite imagery) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), to accurately identify, monitor, and estimate the spatial distribution, area, and yield of wheat crops over large regions.
The mapping system provides timely and spatially explicit information crucial for wheat or other food security planning, agricultural management, and
policy decisions, often outpacing traditional, labor-intensive field surveys.
