Elderly man killed by cop's firing

Police said the injured woman has been discharged, while the minor girl remains under treatment

RAWALPINDI:

A 62-year-old man, who was injured by a cop when he opened fire over a domestic dispute couple of days ago, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at hospital on Saturday. Police said the incident occurred in the Tench Bhatta area on Thursday.

According to initial investigations, a police official identified as Adeel opened fire following a domestic dispute, injuring three people, including an 11-year-old girl.

Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital, where the condition of Diyar Khan remained critical. Despite sustained medical efforts, he passed away during treatment. His body will be handed over to heirs after post-mortem. Police said the injured woman has been discharged, while the minor girl remains under treatment.

A case had initially been registered under attempted murder provisions. Following the victim's death, Section 302 (murder) will be added to the FIR. Efforts are under way to arrest the absconding police official, who remains at large.
