Planning Commission to be apex body for economic policy: Dar
Stesses need to empower PC to drive strategic policy priorities, effectively oversee public investment decisions

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Friday stressed that the Planning Commission (PC) should function as the central clearinghouse for economic decisions, guiding ministries and divisions to ensure policy consistency and coherent development planning, while supporting sustainable reforms to strengthen Pakistan's economic governance.
The deputy prime minister chaired a meeting on economic reforms and highlighted the historic and central role of the PC in Pakistan's economic and development policymaking, according to a news release issued by the DPM's Office.
He emphasised the need to empower the PC to drive strategic policy priorities and effectively oversee public investment decisions. The DPM was of the view that the PC should serve as the apex body under the direct leadership of the prime minister, with an integrated Policy and Planning Wing alongside a separate Development Wing.
