KARACHI:

The tortured body of a woman, found wrapped in a sheet near a garbage dump in the New Karachi Industrial Area on January 1, has been identified as 36-year-old Asia. She was a resident of Sohrab Goth, who had gone missing the same day after leaving home with a man named Nazik Hashmi. Her husband, Jawar, filed a kidnapping report at Sohrab Goth police station on January 6.

Speaking to the media at the Chhipa morgue, Jawar said his wife left their home in Lasi Goth, Ahmed Jamal Para, on January 1 and never returned. According to him, Asia went out after receiving a call from Nazik Hashmi, who claimed he was waiting outside their house. She left their two children at home, asking a neighbour to look after them, but did not come back.

Jawar alleged that Nazik had threatened Asia, saying he would kidnap her if she did not "befriend" him.
