KARACHI:

Around 18 years ago the then city government had envisaged future growth plan for the metropolis, however it could not be enforced resulting in unplanned and unauthorised sprawl and collapse of utilities.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has called upon the Sindh government to implement the Karachi Strategic Development Plan (2020).

Taha Ahmed Khan, Deputy Parliamentary Leader of MQM-Pakistan in the Sindh Assembly, in a letter to the Chief Minister recalled that KSDP 2020 was approved through City District Government Karachi (CDGK) Council Resolution No312 dated 15 December 2007, following extensive deliberations, technical studies and consultations with stakeholders.

He further noted that the plan was also included in official gazette of the Government on 10 October 2018 pursuant to directions of the Supreme Court Water Commission.

"KSDP 2020 is the foundational governance document for Karachi. Its continued non-implementation has resulted in unplanned development, institutional confusion and the steady deterioration of the city's infrastructure and quality of life," Khan said.
