Cynthia Erivo to miss 2026 Golden Globe Awards despite Wicked: For Good nomination
Erivo is in London preparing for a stage production of Dracula, where she will play 23 characters in a one-woman show

Cynthia Erivo will not be attending the 2026 Golden Globe Awards, even though she is nominated for Best Actress Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her role in Wicked: For Good. The acclaimed actress and singer confirmed her absence is due to an overseas work commitment that prevents her from traveling to Los Angeles for the ceremony.
Erivo is currently in London preparing for a demanding new stage production of Dracula, in which she will take on the extraordinary challenge of playing 23 different characters in a one-woman show. With rehearsals and previews fast approaching, the tight schedule makes it impossible for her to step away to attend the awards show.
Speaking about the ambitious project, Erivo described it as “absolutely nonsensical and insane,” admitting that while the role is daunting, she is also excited to push herself creatively. The production underscores her continued dedication to theater alongside her film and television career.
Wicked: For Good has emerged as a strong contender this awards season, earning multiple Golden Globe nominations, including recognition for its music and a supporting nod for co-star Ariana Grande. For Erivo, the nomination marks her fifth Golden Globe nod overall and her second consecutive nomination for portraying Elphaba — a historic milestone that makes her the first Black woman to be nominated twice in the Best Actress — Musical or Comedy category.
While Erivo will be absent from the red carpet, her decision highlights her commitment to her craft across both stage and screen. Fans may not see her at the Golden Globes this year, but her impact on the awards season — and beyond — remains unmistakable.
