Asus has announced a new extended reality product that allows games to be played through a pair of glasses, effectively turning eyewear into a portable gaming display. The device, called the ROG Xreal R1, was revealed during the Consumer Electronics Show and through Asus’ online channels.

Developed in partnership with Xreal, the ROG Xreal R1 glasses are designed to stream video directly from compatible devices using a USB-C connection.

Asus says the glasses can be connected to a laptop, desktop PC or handheld systems such as the ROG Ally, allowing users to view games on a large virtual screen rather than a physical monitor.

According to the company, the glasses provide a 57-degree field of view and project a 171-inch virtual display positioned at a distance of four virtual metres.

This setup is intended to replicate the experience of gaming on a large screen while remaining portable, whether at home or while travelling.

The ROG Xreal R1 features 1080p micro-OLED lenses with a 240Hz refresh rate. Asus has also included a ROG Control Dock, which supports HDMI and DisplayPort connections for broader device compatibility. When paired with the ROG Ally, the glasses connect using a single USB-C cable.

Audio is delivered through built-in Bose speakers integrated into the glasses. The lenses include automatic tint adjustment to adapt to changing lighting conditions, and the entire unit weighs 91 grams, according to Asus.

While no pricing details have been announced, Asus has stated that it aims to launch the ROG Xreal R1 in the first half of 2026.
