KHANEWAL:

A suspected robber was injured and arrested following an exchange of fire between police and criminals during a patrol in Mian Channu, while his two accomplices managed to escape on a motorcycle, police said on Monday.

According to details, SHO Mian Channu City Police Station Rashid Nadeem Jatt, along with his team, was patrolling in a police van when they encountered three armed robbers who had set up a makeshift checkpoint with the intention of committing robbery. When the suspects attempted to stop the police vehicle, they opened fire upon realizing it was a police van.

Police said the robbers fired multiple shots, some of which struck the bonnet of the police vehicle.

The police personnel jumped out of the van and retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of fire from both sides.

During the crossfire, one suspect, identified as Saleem son of Hashim of Sanpal, sustained a bullet injury to the leg and fell to the ground. His two accomplices continued firing and fled the scene on a motorcycle.

The injured suspect was taken into custody and later shifted to Tehsil Hospital Channu with the help of Rescue 1122 for medical treatment. Police said Saleem was wanted in more than 22 serious criminal cases.

Police have launched further investigation and are conducting raids to arrest the fleeing suspects.
