BUREWALA:

Two suspected robbers reportedly involved in a recent gang rape case were killed in an alleged police encounter on Tuesday in the limits of Chayal police station.

According to the police, the suspects were part of a gang that looted commuters near Basti Islamabad.

When police arrived at the scene to apprehend them, they opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response, the police said, adding that the shootout resulted in the death on the spot of the two robbers, Anwar Khan and Tehzeebul Hassan. Officials said they had been involved in a recent gang rape incident and snatching jewellery in the Jhal Syal area.

The police said two accomplices of the deceased had managed to escape and were being pursued.

A case was registered and police teams formed to arrest the suspects.

The bodies were taken to the Tehsil headquarters hospital for post-mortem, while the investigations were ongoing.

Meanwhile, in Gujrat police arrested four suspects and seized over 1kg of hashish and three pistols.
