'Curtailment of judicial power' denounced

A lawyers' convention held at the District Kacheri Rawalpindi on Tuesday rejected the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments, declaring them detrimental to national security, an obstacle to swift and affordable justice, and tantamount to curtailing judicial independence.

The convention announced a series of lawyers' conventions from Khyber to Karachi, to be held at district and tehsil bar associations as well as high court benches across the country.

Addressing the gathering were former Lahore High Court judge Justice (retd) Ibadur Rehman Lodhi and others.

Justice Lodhi stated that the present parliament lacked the authority to amend the Constitution.
