402 illegal shops sealed in Karachi

KARACHI:

Stern action was taken in the South, East and Korangi districts on Saturday as part of a crackdown against encroachments ordered by Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi.

According to official details, a two-day operation against roadside tea-stalls, shops and other illegal structures resulted in the sealing and removal of 402 encroachments in the three districts.

Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner South Jawed Nabi Khoso, a total of 261 tea-stalls and shops were sealed in the Saddar and Aram Bagh subdivisions. Of these, 58 shops and hotels were sealed on Friday in Saddar, while 249 hotels and related premises were sealed on Saturday.

In the East district, under Deputy Commissioner Nasrullah Abbasi, 84 roadside hotels and shops were sealed during the two-day operation.

Further details revealed that on Friday in Saddar, 227 shops and 14 roadside hotel structures, along with soft encroachments, were sealed in areas including Akbar Road, Preedy Street, Asho Centre, Mobile Market, M.A. Jinnah Road, Pakistan Chowk, Lily Bridge Road, Clifton, and Nishtar Road. In Aram Bagh, 17 roadside hotel seating arrangements and 22 shops were sealed.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Korangi Masood Bhutto reported that 10 electronics shops were sealed for selling goods on footpaths.
