ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday withdrew a notification related to the electoral process for the Islamabad local government polls and suspended further steps, including the nomination of candidates.

The party has cancelled the notification announcing the formation of its parliamentary board for the Islamabad local government elections.

The notification, originally issued on December 27, has now been rescinded.

The notification cancelling the earlier decision was issued by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja.

Earlier, the PTI’s Islamabad chapter rolled out a merit-based scorecard mechanism to determine the allocation of tickets for local government elections in the federal capital.

Under the framework, candidates are assessed on four criteria, with 25 points assigned to each: long-standing association with the party, participation in protest and movement activities since April 9, 2022, a demonstrable on-ground role in the 2024 general elections, and involvement in Imran Khan’s Haqeeqi Azadi movement.

Last month, the Election Commission of Pakistan announced that local government elections would be held in Islamabad, ending a prolonged delay in the electoral process in the federal capital.
