ISLAMABAD:

The glamorous “Hues from Potohar” that opened at PNCA on Thursday, focuses on the artists of the region rather than the landscape of the plateau.

Nahid Imam, artist and curator at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), said, “There are a lot of prominent artists from the Potohar region.”

She added, “We also have newer artists who are taking older techniques forward.”

Potohar’s rich historical and cultural heritage as well as its geography creates a kaleidoscope of vibrant and rich palette for the artists of the region. It also provides inspiration for creative minds which is visible in their work.

The exhibit features some of the prominent names in Pakistan including Ahmed Pervaiz, Chenjez Sultan, Ghulam Rasul, Ali khan Sajjad, Jamila Masud, Mansur Rahi, Hajra Mansur and Misbahuddin Qazi.

Amongst the more modern names featuring at the exhibit are Aasim Akhtar, Farah Mehmood Rana, Kasar Iqbal, Mehmood Ali, Zahra Kazmi and Shahnaz Akram.

Mehmood Ali’s rendition of the Wazir Mosque in Lahore is fantastically rendered. “The architecture is inspirational but its falling apart and no restoration is taking place, therefore I restore these landmark sites in my art work so people can enjoy them once they are gone,” said Ali.

Farah Mehmood Rana, in her work, exposes the issue of drone attacks in her miniature rendition on marble wasli.

The show will continue for three days.
