On the joyous occasion of Christmas, bakeries and sweets shops in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad were filled with colourful cakes in dozens of designs and countless flavours.
Christian families remained busy purchasing Christmas cakes from the night of December 24 until late on December 25, while the exchange of Christmas cake gifts remained at its peak across both cities.
Members of the Muslim community also bought Christmas cakes in large numbers to gift to their Christian friends and families.
Bakers in Rawalpindi and Islamabad reported record sales of newly designed cakes for Christmas. Cakes decorated with beautiful Christmas tree and Santa Claus designs were prominently displayed.
Delicious cakes in chocolate, mango ice cream, pineapple, and banana flavours were prepared and sold.
From early morning, bakeries and sweets shops witnessed a rush of customers buying Christmas cakes. Christian families were seen purchasing cakes in bulk for relatives and friends from Christmas night onward.
Cake prices have also seen a record increase. Small cakes were sold for Rs1,000 to Rs1,500, medium-sized designer cakes for Rs2,000 to Rs2,500, while premium cakes were available for Rs3,000 to Rs3,500.
Families including Rashid Chauhan and Daniel Gill said that no matter how expensive the cakes are, Christmas comes only once a year and cakes must be bought to distribute among relatives and Muslim friends.
Shopkeepers said that Christmas cake sales have been ongoing since last night and that Muslims are also participating in large numbers for gifting purposes.
