Saturday Night Live is set to return from its holiday break in January, with actor Finn Wolfhard scheduled to host the first episode of the new year.

The NBC sketch comedy series will air its next episode on January 17, marking its first broadcast following the Christmas hiatus.

The announcement was made during SNL’s holiday episode, which was hosted by Ariana Grande and featured Cher as the musical guest. Wolfhard, best known for his role in Netflix’s Stranger Things, will be making his hosting debut on the long-running series.

Joining him on the January 17 episode will be rapper A$AP Rocky, who is set to appear as the musical guest. While this will mark A$AP Rocky’s first official performance on Saturday Night Live, he previously made a brief cameo on the show in 2018 during an episode hosted by Donald Glover.

Wolfhard has a prior connection to SNL beyond his upcoming hosting role. He appeared in Jason Reitman’s 2024 film Saturday Night, portraying an NBC page. The film chronicled the behind-the-scenes events leading up to the first-ever broadcast of Saturday Night Live on October 11, 1975.

During recent interviews promoting Saturday Night, Wolfhard expressed interest in revisiting classic SNL sketches, including the “Underground Rock Festival” segment originally performed by Jason Sudeikis and Nasim Pedrad.

The hosting gig comes shortly after Wolfhard wrapped filming on Stranger Things, which is set to air its final episode on New Year’s Eve. With the actor’s growing profile and A$AP Rocky’s return to the SNL stage, the January episode is expected to draw significant viewer interest.
