McKenna Grace and Mason Thames rumoured to be cast as leads in Disney's live-action 'Tangled'
Although no formal shortlist has been assembled, Thames and Grace are said to be of strong interest to the studio

McKenna Grace and Mason Thames are rumoured to be in consideration for the lead roles in Disney’s upcoming live-action Tangled remake, which is scheduled to begin filming in June 2026.
According to The Disinsider, Grace is currently favoured by insiders to play Rapunzel, with Freya Skye from Zombies 4 also on the studio’s radar. Grace has built a notable career with roles including Phoebe Spengler in Ghostbusters and a young Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel.
Mason Thames, known for his performances in Black Phone and How to Train Your Dragon, is reportedly the actor Disney is eyeing for Flynn Rider. Although no formal shortlist has been assembled for the character, Thames is said to be of strong interest to the studio.
Development on a live-action version of Tangled was first reported in 2020, ten years after the original animated film premiered. Progress slowed following the lukewarm reception to Disney’s live-action Snow White remake, resulting in the Tangled project being put on hold for several years.
The animated Tangled earned $600 million globally and featured the voices of Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, Zachary Levi as Flynn Rider and Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel. Director Michael Gracey is developing the live-action for Disney alongside co-writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
The success of the animated film led to Tangled Ever After, the short film sequel, along with Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, a television series.
Fans have already begun sharing their thoughts on the potential casting choices, with discussions continuing across social media about whether Grace and Thames would be the right fit for the beloved characters.
