Oil and Gas Development Company Limited has announced a major oil and gas discovery at its exploratory well, Baragzai X-01 (Slant), located in the Nashpa Block, Kohat district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday.

The well is currently producing 2,280 barrels of oil per day (BPD) and 5.6 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD), marking the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Kingriali Formation in this region.

The Baragzai X-01 well was spud in on December 24, 2024, and drilled to a depth of 5,170 meters into the Kingriali Formation. OGDCL, in partnership with joint venture partners, operates the Nashpa Exploration Licence.

"This significant discovery has opened up the potential for further exploration in the area, which will help mitigate Pakistan’s energy supply–demand gap through indigenous resources," said OGDCL officials. The discovery is expected to contribute to the country's hydrocarbon reserves and strengthen the energy sector.

OGDCL’s successful drilling of the Baragzai X-01 well represents a significant step forward in Pakistan's energy development and further de-risks deeper exploration in the region. The discovery promises to play a pivotal role in addressing the country’s energy needs while boosting the reserves of OGDCL, its partners, and the nation.
