'The Boys' sets release date for final season as first trailer reveals Padalecki–Ackles reunion
'The Boys' confirms its final season premiere date as Amazon releases the first trailer featuring a cast reunion

Amazon Prime Video has confirmed that The Boys will return for its fifth and final season on April 8, releasing the first two episodes on launch day.
The remaining episodes will debut weekly until the series finale on May 20. The announcement was made during the show’s panel at CCXP Brazil, where creator Eric Kripke and cast members presented the first teaser trailer.
According to the official description, the season takes place in a world shaped entirely by Homelander’s influence. Hughie, Mother’s Milk and Frenchie are being held in a “Freedom Camp,” while Annie attempts to build a resistance against an increasingly dominant Supe force.
Kimiko is missing. The narrative shifts when Butcher reappears with a willingness to deploy a virus capable of wiping out all Supes, setting off a sequence of events described by the production as world-altering.
The trailer also offers a first look at the on-screen reunion between Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, who previously starred together for 15 seasons in Kripke’s series Supernatural. Ackles returns as Soldier Boy, while details of Padalecki’s role have not been disclosed.
The teaser shows Padalecki’s character entering a room, followed by Soldier Boy and Homelander, indicating a storyline involving the former co-stars. Fans noted the significance of seeing the actors share the screen again.
Additional footage shows Butcher, played by Karl Urban, reuniting with Hughie, Annie and the rest of The Boys after parting from them at the end of Season 4. The trailer suggests the group will face mounting pressure as they attempt to prevent a global catastrophe.
The main cast for the final season includes Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Padalecki, Ackles, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward and Valorie Curry.
The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, alongside Kripke Enterprises, Original Film and Point Grey Pictures.
