Netflix’s Sean Combs documentary reveals new claims, unseen footage and voices from the trial

A new four-part Netflix documentary, “Sean Combs: The Reckoning”, produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, was released on Tuesday and charts the rise of Sean “Diddy” Combs to prominence in hip-hop, followed by his fall amid a series of allegations. Jackson said he spent over a year developing the project with director Alexandria Stapleton.

The series revisits the murders of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G., events that shaped the East Coast and West Coast feud in the 1990s. Shakur died in September 1996 after a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, while The Notorious B.I.G., real name Christopher Wallace, was killed in March 1997 after leaving an awards afterparty with Combs.

Stapleton said the documentary presents “a lot of new information” and that the team was able to gather new sources and material to tell the story in greater detail.

Former Danity Kane member Aubrey O’Day appears in the series, saying she may have been sexually assaulted by Combs, based on information she received from a lawyer representing another woman. O’Day said she has no memory of the incident described in the affidavit. She also shared explicit emails she said Combs sent during her time in the group, saying she believed her firing was linked to refusing to participate sexually.

Representatives for Combs responded that they would not comment on individual claims and said several people in the documentary had “longstanding personal grievances”.

The documentary also includes previously unseen footage recorded days before Combs’ arrest in 2024. His publicist said the material was never authorised for release and disputed Netflix’s right to use it. Netflix said the footage was legally obtained.

Jurors from Combs’ sex trafficking trial also appear, discussing their deliberations and reactions to the verdict.
