Scarlett Johansson recalls Colin Jost thinking their relationship had no future with how she acted on their first date

Scarlett Johansson has reflected on her early relationship with Colin Jost, explaining that her future husband initially believed their romance had little chance after their first date.

The actor and director, 41, discussed the moment during an appearance on the December 1 episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, which she co-hosted.

Johansson said the pair went on their first date in 2017 after Jost asked her to dinner, something she said she was not used to.

“My first date with Colin, honestly, nobody ever really asked me out before,” she said. “I was a serial monogamist and I just never got the traditional, ‘Hey, would you like to have dinner sometime?’”

Their evening began at an Italian restaurant in New York’s East Village. “It was a lovely date,” she said. After the meal, Jost suggested they meet friends for a drink.

Johansson, who felt inexperienced with dating, decided to head home instead. “I hadn’t dated basically ever, and so I was like, ‘I have to go now. I need to leave,’” she recalled.

When she arrived home earlier than expected, even her babysitter questioned the abrupt end to the evening. Johansson said she felt “flustered” and unsure how to handle the situation.

According to Johansson, Jost later admitted her reaction led him to assume they would not continue seeing each other. “Later on he was like, ‘I totally thought that was it. You were acting so weird,’” she said. “I panicked. I don’t know.”

The couple began dating later in 2017 and married in 2020. They share a son, Cosmo, while Johansson is also mother to daughter Rose, whom she shares with her former husband Romain Dauriac.

She and Jost first met in 2006 when she hosted Saturday Night Live, long before their relationship began.
