Tommy Lee has sold the safe that once held the notorious sex tape he made with Pamela Anderson during their 1995 honeymoon.

The metal box went under the hammer at Julien’s Auctions’ “Played, Worn & Torn” event for $2,560, well below its $5,000–$7,000 estimate.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the non-profit organization MusiCares.

The safe, personally owned by Lee, included a note penned in silver ink on the front: “This is the safe that ruined my life! Tommy Lee.”

Inside were valuables such as an AK-47 assault rifle, a .45-caliber rifle, a Mossberg shotgun, a Rolex, a gold and diamond Cartier watch, gold and emerald cufflinks, a ruby and diamond cross, Anderson’s white wedding bikini, and family photographs.

The contents were stolen in 1995 by disgruntled electrician Rand Gauthier, who claimed Lee owed him $20,000. Gauthier, a former adult film actor, distributed the tape online, making it the first celebrity sex tape to go viral worldwide.

VHS copies were reportedly sold for $59.99, years before the rise of celebrity sex tapes like Kim Kardashian and Ray J.

Lee and Anderson later sued Internet Entertainment Group, one of the distributors, but never received a payout because the company went bankrupt.

The saga inspired the 2022 Hulu drama Pam & Tommy, starring Lily James and Sebastian Stan. Lee commented at the time, “Let the motherf***ers know, we broke the internet first,” while Anderson said the series was produced without her permission or involvement.

The auctioned safe now serves as a historical piece from one of Hollywood’s most infamous scandals, with proceeds supporting charity.
